Anyone here experts on Air-Cons? Our unit in the server room has exploded. Well I came in last Tuesday and found a very wet box of old toner carts and loads of black stuff under the unit. It refuses point blank to turn on now
When the air-con was fitted in the last school a guy came out and used some formula based on the PSU's of the servers to work out how much heat they generate and the rating of Air-Con unit needed to dissipate that heat.
I have a chap coming in tomorrow to look at the broken unit and give us an estimate on temporary repair and/or replacement. But would like to have some figures for him ahead of time as to what we need/want.
Anyone know how to calculate the correct rating for a new air con?
Cheers
Terry.

20th April 2009, 10:20 AM #3 Interesting formula that! It means that our 3kW air con is precisely 4 times too small for the job it is doing... No wonder it keeps breaking. Always wondered why the installers never asked me about the ratings of the machinery in the actual room when they installed it (I didn't organise it...).

20th April 2009, 03:02 PM #4 Thanks Geoff. Just did some sums on a back of a napkin. We need a 10KW unit apparently. No wonder our 5-year old 24/7 6.5KW unit bit the dust!

Hmmm I've just done some calculations for our server room and we're going to need around a 12kw unit once our new servers/SAN get switched on.
Just need to convince SMT that we do need a dedicated server room and that the sick bay is going to get a little warm this summer!
