    We take them down to the local recycling center. They take them for free.

    Another option would be to ship them out to a random address

    The local recycling centre for me too. They smile and politely point me in the direction of where the car batteries go. I take up to 12 at a time.

    Believe it or not I sold a job lot of assorted laptop batteries on eBay recently. I clearly stated that most of them were duff and I still sold them for £25.
