I use FoxIT PDF reader - been meaning to implement it at the school
its a freebie and a hell of a lot quicker than Acrobat (1-2 secs compaired to 1-2 mins!!)

Re: Speed up Acrobate Reader loading
try xpdf, gpdf or kpdf, all are faster than acrobat reader, although they lack some of the more advanced features and the interfaces arent as nice, but still, much faster.

Are you using Acrobat Reader 7? Version six was really slow but 7 has worked quick as lightning for us.

Version 7 has always been fine for me also both at home and at school. Version 6 and under was always a nightmare.
