    Virtualising and Sysprep

I'm learning how to use VMWare Converter by virtualising my laptop. I am being asked to upload the sysprep files and I have no idea how to do that I recall making them on an Administrators course many years ago but have not really had the need to do it since. Could someone be kind enough to give me a quick numpties guide to ... ?

I've managed to find an article in MS knowledge base to make a .inf file. This seems to have worked but the conversion is predicted to take 5 hours - is that normal or have I done something wrong

Is this what you're looking for? It's the tools for generating sysprep.inf by wizard, and the auditing and factory tools, and help files.

Depends how big the machine is. If you are doing a server make sure you take in out of production

Whichever Windows disc you used to install Windows, you can extract the Sysprep files. So (for example), if you installed Windows XP Service Pack 3, you need the Sysprep version of these files. Same goes for Windows XP Service Pack 2 etc...

The easiest method is to create a slipstreamed XP SP3 disc, then use this to install on machines. To extract the Sysprep files, on the disc navigate to: \SUPPORT\TOOLS open DEPLOY.CAB and extract to C:\Sysprep

Double clicking setupmgr.exe within C:\Sysprep allows you to create an answer file. Hope this helps.

FN-GM no it's not a server, it's my home laptop copying to my home PC.
Michael thanks for the info, I think that's what I've done but I don't have access to the SP3 disc (they are all at school).
Will look some more on MS see if I can find a Sysprep tool updated to SP3

Thanks everyone, learning curve getting steeper by the minute
