IM for staff use
Many times staff seem to be using email as instant messaging (IM) system.
Has anoyone here implented a proper IM system using either MS Exchange Server 2000 or Live Communications Server? Do any of the Lnux schools use Jabber?
Do you bother with logging?

I've set up and used live communication server, it’s great. I would recommend it. You can use GPO to lock down messenger

fooby: cool what do you find it's good for just chatting or for a better ict support response?
I was wondering about using an xmpp server for a live help system.

Hmm don't know really. We were thinking of adding IM to all staff desktops. But really I don't want to provide and instant response - rather have a helpdesk website. Live help means live interruptions all day, mostly i'm there sorting the network I would rather the technicians do the IM however they are off fixing hardware issues elsewhere. I can see teacher to teacher it might be useful though.
Having just the head of dept IM'ing me is bad enough..... 170 (ish) staff doing the same? nightmare.

hench the busy, icon on messenger. All on the help side you can do the whole remote desktop sharing.
