As a site we have always barred downloading from the internet to stop pupils from instaling games, filling the server with mp3's and doing other stuff we don't want them to do.
But we now offer DIDA and the course leader wants his pupils to be able to donload video clips and then edit them with movie editing software.
How would or do you handle this?
As a stop gap we are modifying our GPO for the morning to facilitate downloading but a more robust class/room based system would be better.
If we edited the GPO for the classroom contaner would this overide the user GPO?
I did think about only allowing from named sites but the course leader quite rightly wants the pupils to find their own clips.

I don't have to do this atm but I could by:
1. Make a new filter group in dansguardian, basically a copy of the normal student settings.
2. Allow videos to download in the new filter group. It buried in the mimetypes bit if I recall.
3. Add the AD login names for the students who need to do this to the filtergroup and remove them from the standard one.
Job done. Don't even need to restart dansguardian.
Note that dansguardians keyword blocking is still in place, so even for students in the new group they can't download named anything dodgy or search for anything dodgy.
