Just thinking about setting up a school internet radio station using shoutcast that is only available to the internal network.
What would be involved in terms of licensing? If we were to play a chart song would we be breaking copyright?

I believe (someone will correct me if i'm wrong) that you need a small webcasters licence from the PRS PPL : small webcaster licence
I'm not sure if the school needs a full PRS licence as well, but if you're playing music anywhere you should have one anyway (inaddition to licence's for films etc)
I'd speak to your LEA - as many have a bulk buy deal with the PRS, and can get definitive answers about what you need.

Ok, need help with something else now.
I don't want to install WinAmp on the client machines and I have tested the stream to work with VLC which is installed. The thing is, you have to go through the settings and add the stream etc.
Does anyone know how I can create a weblink (or program shortcut locally) that opens VLC and then opens the stream of the station (which will be something like ***.***.***.***:8000)

Could I not have a shortcut like this that is in the program set?
vlc.exe /s "***.***.***.***:8000"
Where /s is a switch of some sort.
Is this possible?

Check this site out for a Government backed website dedicated for school radio stations. They offer prizes etc and let you broadcast your radio station to other registered schools. Its free to join also.

I tested out an internal shoutcast radio a while ago as people here were interested (note the WERE) I had an embedded flash player that connected to the stream, think it used something from windows media but I cant remember. It meant that we could have a link on the intranet that the kids could click and it connected straight away.
