Hi there,
Has anyone on the forums used 2 proxys in school? If so, how do you do it? We have the standard RM one provided by county - which is blanket for every user, but we'd like to add a second proxy that would over ride the RM one, but still use the RM as a filter. The reason is that we are looking at adding an extra proxy so teachers can still access youTube, but still are connected to the RM blocklists.
Sorry to sound so vauge, thanks in advance.

We did use the RM SmartCache as an upstream proxy for a while when we were setting up our Smoothwall box and it seemed to work. Once we'd got it setup we ditched the RM box completely.
You could also try having students on on proxy and staff on another.

We Just installed smoothwall and ditched the RM filter.
The smoothwall does a much better job

seconded here.
Smoothie passes to the unfiltered rm proxy. That way smoothwall authenticates users and decides their level of filtering.
We have two proxies.
One for the staff network, and one for the student network.
We then have different filtering rules on them, and then they both both go upstream to the LA RM proxy filter. So we can block stuff on the student filter, and allow it on the LA one.
The fact that proxys are based on a per user GPO, means we could, in theory, have the staff users on the student network, pointed towards the staff network proxy, but that would be silly, as the students would soon start trading staff accounts.![]()
Thanks for all your replies.
@user3204 - what proxy software do you use?

The short answer is that you probably can't do what you want to do unless you modify the RM Proxy to allow the IP of your internal proxy free roaming access to the internet or can you bypass the RM Proxy for Staff?
It's a bit like having an express check in station at an airport but a long queue to get through the plane door.
I have two of these: Appliance Gateway Solutions | intY The Internet Security Company
But if I was to buy a proxy server now I would get this: Web Filtering by Bloxx -- Internet Filter Products certainly for the student network.
They both have a extra pay feature that categorises URLs etc, but the Bloxx one looks better, would allow me to have both networks going through the one box, with different filtering options/levels, is prettier, and they've said they're "looking into" making it available as a VM appliace (I am trying to convert all my physical servers into VM Appliances).
