Hi I thought i would just tell people about a product that I have seen demoed. It is called Sanmelody and looks a great solution for creating a high availability storage system in schools. You get a standard x86 server and run a stripped down windows 2003 (would not surprise me if they go with core 2008 soon) and run the application on top. This install will be done by a certified partner of Sanmelody. It use the ram as the cache for the system this provieds the performance figures of I/O 200,000 and this has been used to support a medical imaging system. You can you use your choose of SAN fabric you are looking at a around the £10,000 for a fully redundant system dependent on what hardware can be reused. A single node system license starts at about £500 pounds.
