Last Christmas I splashed out 100 on one of those HP (i think?) boxes that hooks up to your router and tv and can stream from any pc that has the correct (bundled) software. It got a bit of use, but i'm now thinking of either going direct (now i have a hd tv) or maybe finding a way to get my PS3 to do it for me.

The HP thing also had that network through your power lines gimmick going for it, which if the pc wasn't 20 yards from the TV would have been awesome.

edit: I should set it up in the babies room really.

the xbox v ps3 media/noise debate is interesting and i have read good and bad things about both.

As for DVD players that upscale and play divx that is a world of hurt.

Having looked into it for the last 2 months as i wanted a dvd player to watch divx movies in the bedroom on my new TV.

    I went for this:
DVP5990/37 - DVD player - Players and recorders - DVD and home theater - Philips

I went for this as it supports USB2 (this helps a lot) and sometimes movie rips have sound issues (depending on how they are ripped, packed bitstream i think..cant remember now) and a lot of dvd players have problems but the dvp5990 handles them fine.

I did have a look early last year but i think i was put off by some issues with HD content - especially the sound side of things. I liked the GUI it seemed super quick.
