Our ICT Coordinator came back from a County conference on Friday. He stuck his head into my office and asked me what a Learning Platform is because we have to have one implemented by the summer. I told him that Edulink was a learning platform so in theory we already have one. Not that anyone knows how to use it.
We also need to be able to allow the kids to email each other, so they can share their work. Our email server is built into the County Broadband and we can give each pupil an email address but there's very little scope for tying it down to a level where it cannot be abused. I'm not sure that this is a major problem internally but we cannot make it internal only.
Is there anything out there that would allow us to set up an internal email server? Or any other ideas on the subject?

Can you not setup your own Microsoft Exchange server on site and then restrict what email addresses messages can be sent to?

Its possible with Exchange but it won't be cheap. A lot of people are using Zimbra on here and I think you can set it up for internal mail only.

Exchange was the first product that came to mind.
