We currently have some HP iPaq 2940's which are running Mobile V5.0 which we are going to use for SIMS.NET mobile registration.
Is there a way of locking down the PDA so that our staff cant fiddle?
Ideally it would be nice if we could create a user with no rights and delete all the shortcuts...
Is it at all possible?
Thanks in advance.

If it died does it not restore to default settings anyway?
I think they used to.
Haven't used one in a while.

There isn't 'as standard' a way of doing this - although it would be a good feature to have.
When a PDA is hard reset/ battery runs out, it resets to factory default - which is not the same as whatever you may want it to be defaulted to in school...
I believe there was another post on it recently actually.

Thanks for the replies - just suprising MS haven't acknowledged this and given the PDA's a user based system like on a workgroup installation of windows!

Yeah, It's amazing M$ haven't thought to setup some kind of management facility for windows mobile PDA's yet. At the very minimum for a device used on a company/school network you'd expect somekind of auto-setup facility and the ability to lock down what applications can be installed on it to stop staff breaking it. Mind you what good's all that if you can simply wipe any passwords and settings by removing the battery 8O
We've had requests in the past to give a PDA to every staff member but without some structured way to manage them it'd be a full time job for someone just maintaining them.

What would be nice is some sort of way to customise the ROM-based installed so it if dies then it just defaulted to the customised ROM. There should be a mthod where the instal can be performed post-purchase. Similar to a HP PDA upgrade.
