    create a standalone cd recorder

does anyone know how i can build a comp that will work as a standalone cd recorder to connect to some audio kit we have in music.

It'l have to be really simple to use and will just be used to record from the soundcard's line in and then burn a cd

    Thanks!

Surely, a box with 2 icons labelled as step one and step 2 would do the trick? Step one could be using Audacity to record from the line in and step two could be the cd writing software that you just drag your created file into.

You could be really clever and create a web page with instructions on how to use it and set it as the wallpaper using Actgive Desktop too

or even if thinking of being really clever setup script to record input and then second script to write it using a command line cd writer software...

This is a two stage process. You need to dump the audio to disk then burn it. There's no way to make an audio CD 'on the fly' from live audio input.

@geoff: Unless you buy a 'realtime' cd-rcorder... Coomber make one but it ain't cheap and it can't be used for editting - basically a jumped up tape recorder without the tapes.

Ah yes, now I see. Possible on Linux thusly:

    Code:
    ecasound -i:alsa,default -f:s16_le,2,44100 -o:stdout | cdrecord -audio -pad -swab -nofix -
    cdrecord -fix

Re: create a standalone cd recorder

Linux approach just requires 'cdrecord' and 'escasound' as I mentioned above.

Debian, Damn Small Linux, Gentoo or Slackware come to mind as possible Distro's to try.

If I created a script in linux and ran this code would it begin recording and writing to disk, if so how would I stop it at the end or instruct it to wipe a previously used CDRW?

    Thanks!

Re: create a standalone cd recorder

It'll stop recording when the CD is full.

    To eject the CD:

    Code:
    cdrecord -eject
    To erase a CDRW:

    Code:
    cdrecord blank=all
