Hi
Im trying to setup OCS inventory on a xp machine but I'm not having any look in picking up machines.
I've followed the instructions for installing the Management server on a Windows machine using the passwords it says to use.
after installing the server part, should I be able to see all the machines currently switched on? I can't so i insalled the client software OCSAgentSetup.exe. still no joy.
any suggestions please as I'm well stuck

Sorry - Can't help. I got as far as you have. It's sidelined for the mo due to a lack of manning and other projects but I'd like to see what the solution is

What instructions have you used for deploying the agent?
You have to configure the agents options so it knows the address of the server to talk to.
You can do this by just renaming the exe to be the ip address of the server machine i.e 192.168.1.1.exe and then when it runs on a client it will connect and inventory itself.
Also be aware that it doesn't always inventory straight away to avoid all machiens doing so at the same time it waits for a delay.

here is the Link to the pdf document.
Once I've changed the .exe name to the 10.64.67.199 is there any way i can force it to send info from clent to server so i can see if it works?
@ Alan-d will let you know how i get on
cheers

Re: OCS Inventory Help needed
I sent my agents out via group policy with the parameters set up.
It didn't always work but all the agents were installed, just the settings didn't always take.
If you want the clients to report early, then once the agent is installed on the clients you need to stop the OCS Inventory Service on each machine and modify the service.ini file, specifically just change the TTO_WAIT to a few seconds. Its in C:\Program Files\OCS Inventory Agent. Then start your OCS service and it reports by the time you specified in the service.ini file
Tags are not necessary at install but I did mine later once they were all reported.
Its a great piece of software, well worth the effort.
Good luck with it.

WOOO WEEEEE WOOOOO YEAH!
Thats pleased me :-)
I had done everything spot on it was just the waiting time for the info to be uploaded.
whats everyone else set the times to in the service.ini?
at 5k of bandwith i could just set them all to a lower time

This query allow you to display all machine grouped by TAG account info.
Click on the computers count to retrieve the corresponding devices. For example, if you’ve choose to set your TAG information to reflect your geographical sites, this will display the number of computer in each different site.
