Online form website - logins from AD

Looking at creating something, I want to knock up some online forms but the user will need to login to the site first using details stored in active directory.

Anyone set anything up like this before? Am I right in thinking Moodle could handle this?

Isnt it something to do with Ldap? I remember using it a few years ago but the network was using Novell.

Yeah, use ldap to get the info which I know Moodle can use for logins, but can you create forms within that?

Take a look at Visual Studio Lightswitch - built into most of the 2012 VS packages now.

Its a rapid database/form creation tool that ties into AD very nicely

Just host it on a IIS server and there is even a version of it which runs on HTML instead of Silverlight for the user end.

You can use PHP_LDAP plugin, which is built in to bind to AD using the username, if it fails - the password is wrong.

Its a simple PHP script, Ill put one together for you if you want?

I will have a look at that, thank you.

Are you meaning to link to Moodle or something else?

No I ment, if you just wanted to build it yourself and not using moodle, it would be far easier. Moodle can support this, if you use Moodle LDAP to auth

Oh, I see. Liking the sound of that.

The more I think about this idea the more I am thinking I am going to be asked if I can report on the results returned though, next thing for me to think about...

Google apps for Education can do this. We use the forms all the time. I also have my jobsheet as a Google form attached to the schools website and on a network share. Bloody handy and soooooo easy to use that even the teachers can use it.

NB. to above post - all results in a google form come back in a spreadsheet which can also have pie charts etc.

If you are going down the LDAP <-> AD route don't expose your AD server to the internet. Use a VPN connection between your External Webserver and your Internal AD Server.
