    Staff favorites folder.

How do you all allow staff to keep the favorites?

My network is running on mandatory profiles and when the machine is rebooted, all local profiles are deleted. I've had some staff come to me asking why they can't save their favorites. Is there anyway round this?

    Cheers,

    Ste

If you could look it up that would be great. Don't mind for the kids but the staff are annoying!!!

    Re: Staff favorites folder.

    Its in
    Hkey_Current_user\software\microsoft\windows\curre ntversion\explorer\user shell folders
    and
    Hkey_Current_user\software\microsoft\windows\curre ntversion\explorer\ shell folders

One of them overrides the other but we just have both looking to the favorites folder in the home folder

Thanks for that, I've used the GPO template and have applied it. Will have to wait and see if it works!!

    Thanks again everyone.

Just bear in mind you might need to go digging around local profiles for 'lost' favourites. This mainly happens for staff who sit at the same PC all the time (office staff usually).

Redirecting 'Favourites' in this fashion appears to stop group policy assigned favourites appearing.

Other than that, it works perfectly.

Yes I suggest you use a login script to robocopy predefined favourites into their networked favourites folder.

Have a look at Kixtart for creating useful login scripts

You can make reg changes as people log in as part of the script. I do mine like this

    Code:
    $RC=WRITEVALUE("HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders","Favorites","P:\Favorites","REG_EXPAND_SZ")
Works a treat and allows staff to access their favourites from any machine on the network.
