But you said that all but a few PCs allowed the pupils to write to it, the others you fixed by setting permissions for that specific file.
That leads me to believe that the windows dir is not denied to pupils, or else how did any of them write to it?

I used cacls in a logon script, no idea why it didn't work on some of them. :-(
In hind sight it might work out better to get it to write to a temporary folder somewhere, would have saved me fixing those 10 if nothing else !
