Looking for free computer utislisation software

    Hello everyone,

I am looking for a free software that would monitor for how long our computers are being used by the students (we are thinking about monitoring around 300 computers simultaneously). Once data is collected, we then would love to be able to produce it in the form of graphic charts.

I would be most grateful for any suggestions.

    Best regards,

    Michal

depends how simplistic you mind you could just write a script that logs logon time and logoff time to a csv

We would need to know for how long the computers were switched on and also for how long users were logged in on them.

I think you could do this with nagios. You could use a ping response to check for uptime and monitor some user level service to distinguish when someone is actually logged on. There is a close relation of nagios called mtrg which will collate stats for you. With mrtg you would need to run an snmp service on the PC's, but it would make the presentation of stats a breeze.
