Hi all, I've had HAP running for quite a while as a file transfer system and that works fine but I've been asked to implement the Quotas and logon tracker and have gone blank so need help with the setups :
All servers have the Quota service on and running and in config servers are listed and drive set to H ( in capitals ).
So do the servers need \\ first or not ? Do drives need to be H:\ or just H.
As it stands, in the my school computer bit, there are just long green lines under each share.
Also, I ticked the checkbox to show quotas on the main screen but they don't appear. Do I need to tweek something else ?
Logon Tracker :
I have setup a sql server and HAP can see it and is happy with it.
Client side do i install the logon tracker msi to all machines or the User card msi ( as stated in the pdf, possibly a typo ? ) ?
The scripts are simple enough but the client setup is a bit unclear.
If anyone has a step by step for these I'd be most grateful.
Word of warning, the quota service currently only supports the disk quota system.
Here's an example from my network:
Home Drive (N:\) == \\chs01\%username%.
User: Nick, Home Directory: \\chs01\nick$
Home Directories on CHS01 are stored on the H:\ on the server
1. Drive mapping converted to UNC Path, e.g. \\chs01\nick$
2. HAP+ Checks the Path to see if it is quota or disk or none
3. HAP+ looks though the quota server expressions to find out which server to ask for quota information
4. The expression has which drive to ask for the quota information on the server
5. HAP+ Sends a WCF request to the quota server for the information
I'll have a look at that today. Any words of wisdom concerning the Logon Tracker ? Server side is set up and I have no problems setting up logon scripts, it's just the client side software requirement.
The client software just needs .net framework version 2. (Or should). Then you add the startup/shutdown/logoff/logon scripts. Try accessing https://url/hap/tracker/api.asmx. You shouldn't need to put a username and password to get to that page
Thanks again Nick, software runs but only works for admin. Added a software restriction policy to allow it but still nothing. I'll see if I can sort it out, must be permissions somewhere along the lines.
Hmm sorry reading the wrong thread when I answered before.
If only admins are getting the drive space info then it may be that the drive mappings aren't using the quota servers, and are instead trying to get drive space info. When you get drive space info, it may fail if your trying it as a non admin.
Hehe, think you're trying to support too many posts Nick. I'll recap as I haven't looked at the quota server stuff just yet, still stuck with the logon tracker.
The MSI installs fine. If i run the script manually, logged on as admin, the database is updated. If i logon as teaching staff or pupil it runs ( no errors saying it doesn't exist or fails ) but the database isn't updated. I must have missed something with the server side permissions or firewall is blocking , not really sure but AV isn't blocking anything ( it's Symantec, it hardly reacts when there is an issue )
Very odd. It should use the AppPool account to write to the database, as it's actually calling a web service, and then the HAP+ website writes to the database. Do you see any signs of HAP+ when you logon?
It should just work though. It's installed into the System32 folder. It doesn't need read or write access, only internet access.
Check that the proxy settings are correct, and the that you are using the FQDN for HAP's parameter. Each event (logon, logoff, shutdown, startup) needs to have the parameter telling it where to send requests to
