    Access to the path 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot\HAP\app_data' is denied.

    When browsing to MyFiles on a fresh install of HAP v8.7 I get the following error....

    Access to the path 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot\HAP\app_data' is denied.

    However I have already given my 'IIS AppPool\HAP' user modify access to this directory and setup.aspx confirms that the App_Data directory is writable.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Looks like the issue is to do with the enablereadto and enablewriteto entries within the drive mappings. If I set these to 'All' it works ok.

    <mapping drive="N" name="Home" enablereadto="All" enablewriteto="All" enablemove="False" usagemode="Quota">%homedir%</mapping>

    Previously I had these set to enablereadto="%username%" enablewriteto="%username%" which doesn't work.

    Is 'All' the only option?

    Spoke too soon! When browsing to MyFiles I can now see and access my drives but I still get the error Access to the path 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot\HAP\app_data' is denied.

    Check the application pool is set to HAP and that the anonymous authentication user is set to Application Pool Identity

    Thanks for the response Nick. I've double checked these settings and they're already set as you describe.

    Although I had unticked "Read Only" on the properties of C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\HAP, it had not taken effect and kept coming back like a lost dog. Following article You cannot view or change the Read-only or the System attributes of folders in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 I ran the command attrib -r +s c:\inetpub\wwwroot\HAP which has resolved the issue.

    Thanks for your help.

    @nickbro

    Turns out users still randomly get the Access to the path 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot\HAP\app_data' is denied. error message, and when they do, links in the top menu bar don't work. However, refreshing the page mostly clears the error and then links in the top menu bar do work.

    Bug or an issue for me only do you think?

    Cheers

    Extremely odd, Access Denied is a very strange one being periodic, the App_Data folder is cached heavily so this shouldn't be happening
