Lost Password: 3COM 3250 Superstack

I say lost I never had it, I#ve just purchased this switch on ebay so I can do some learning on vlan routing and 802.1x stuff.

I've used putty to connect to the com port but I get a prompt to log in. (from the manual the username is bound to be admin but the last user wasn't nice enough to remove the password) I've read that to factory reset the switch I need to run the command "systen control initialize" but I don't know how to do that without logging in?

(to be honest I expected to find a nice little hole in the switch somewhere to reset it)

I can see the switch booting via telnet (if I power cycle it) is it possible to stop the switch halfway through booting and enter a command?

does anyone know if I'm doing it right? The 3com pointers to password recovery are lost thanks to HP ruining the 3com website.

Usually involves holding down some keys over the console connection while rebooting the switch.

SOLVED: I needed to step up my google fu. using the username and password as "recover" it allows a PW reset after a powercycle.

I'd googled this problem for over an hour on Friday!
