When you buy a PC, the warranty is with the manufacturer of the computer, not the companies who make the individual components. e.g. if you buy a MacBook Pro + SSD from Apple, you would get Apple to replace the SSD if it was faulty, not Samsung/Toshiba etc.

The problem with that article is he doesn't put any of the failures into context. What operating system was his friend using, what were the SSDs being used for, did he have the same issues with HDDs? For all we know it could be a faulty PSU killing the SSDs.
