Depending on which Atom it is it should run fine. We have tested and used the N550 with 2Gb and it runs like a dream.

Depends what you want to do with it - editing video or playing big games will be poor. Checking Facebook, emails, general web surfing, listening to music, watching videos will be fine.
Cant say which processor, its from RM,
for use in a primary school. mostly web stuff, flash games (educational of course) may be a bit of word processing, not to stressful
I’m running windows 7 pro on a HP 2140netbook 1.60GHz N270, 2GB ram works fine for me, I use office, music , Videos, even virtual box with Linux on( which starts to push it to its limits.)
Got it on a samsung nb30 touch and its fine as said, not for video editing but thats ok.
It works better on some atom CPUs than Pentium M chips clocked higher. They have a newer instruction set and so are really quite good under Windows 7. My home media center/server runs a dual core hyperthreaded atom on an ION chipset and is very smooth for most tasks. You of course have things like the primative flash that can choke it but it is actually better at handling this than my 2GHz pentium M tablet.
Yep, I had it on my Aspire One original - Atom, upgraded to the max 1.5gb RAM, still using the godawful PSSD1800 SSD too - ran fine.
Now running a lightweight Linux distro on it, with Virtualbox set up to run a Win32 VM for vehicle diagnostic purposes. Impressively nippy.
Have had windows 7 running fine on eeepc 901 with the sloooooooow SSD 1GB ram and it was ok and on an old RM tablet Celeron 800MHz with 512MB ram and its boots and runs faster than it did with xp won’t run modern games, But quite happy word-processing and playing you tube the eeepc even lets me play Elite force only thing I find is after a hour or so my eyes do get tired on the small screen
