I want to try it, I know you can get PCI-e cards with USB 3.0 from ebay. i might order a card end of the month
Its planned to be our next offsite backup solution, just waiting for more than one brand to be avalible in NZ so we at least have the illusion of choice.
I'm using a PCI card and transfer speeds are 90 mb/s on average. Sometimes more if the data is smaller to transfer (typically 130 mb/s). I transfered 2 x 100GB VHD files yesterday from PC to ext. HD and it did them in under 40 minutes. You take that with USB 2.0 and you'll see a transfer time of 3 hours!
USB 3.0 is a must have IMO as the difference in speed is huge. So much so I have bought PCIe cards for all of my home PCs (an Asus U3S6 and Gigabyte GA-USB 3.0), a HDD dock (StarTech SATDOCKU3S) and a USB 3.0 flash drive (16GB Kingston Data Traveller Ultimate). Here are some benchmarks I took from the latter.
