Does anyone know of a product to fix a small form factor pc to desks, to stop kids moving them out of the way so they can sit on the desk?
The problem is its a sealed unit otherwise you could open it up and drill through the base and screw it to the desk.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Don't know of anything in particular, but you could just get some ~3cm width flexible plastic strips, strap them over the case with a few cm either side, and screw the ends into the desk.
Angle iron "corners" attached to the desk in the shape of the base unit? - pcs can still be moved, but not slid out of the way. Combined with a locking strap (as above)?
Like the plastic strap but metal instead... You can get a roll of metal strapping that has holes every centimeter or two... Relatively easy to bend to require shape and a lot harder to cut/remove...
Possibly add a couple of self tapping short screws to screw the strapping to the actual PC unit (in safe positions where there's no parts to drill into :)).
lol, this all sounds a bit like a job for bob the builder. I cant believe that no-one has come up against this problem before and even less so that someone hasnt noticed this gap in the market. although i suppose that the dell solution will do simply as an anti theft device. what i am looking for is more like and "anti kids" device.

There are desks available with various types of computer containers that are bolted to the underside of the desk, but which pose the problem of users bashing their knees off them! (Hmm... not a bad idea come to think of it :twisted:)
You could always rig the cases up to provide an electric shock on contact for a different approach ;)

I seem to recall reading somewhere that another school had a similar issue and the caretaker was told to "secure" the PCs to the bench. Yep you guessed it, over the weekend he drilled through the underneath of the benches and screwed 6" screws through the holes and into the PC chassis. Of course this meant that the motherboard was perforated as well.
He anticipated praise for a job well done and was consequently a bit surprised at the right royal rollocking he got from the Network Manager on the Monday morning.

I've seen clamp kits available somewhere recently - so they do exist - ranging from fragile looking plastic clips to warzone certified bombproof complete housings.
we have some SX620's (i think) that came with some really secure mounting unit. Clamps the PC to the desk and has a study cover at the back to stop kids pulling kb / mouse etc out...Quote:

Only downside is they're really tricky to put back together - read usually two man job - if you have to go and swap over an input device etc :)
