S7000 2010.Q1 release

All,

At long last and I know lots of you have been chomping at the bit for this - 2010.Q1 is now available!

Thank you everyone for all of your hard work on this release -- many people across many different organizations contributed to this release.

Thanks especially to those of you who participated in our internal evaluation; it was a tremendous success, and you can expect that to be a regular program moving into our 2010.Q3 release.

Thanks again for your ongoing support of our product -- and here's to finally seeing 2010.Q1 become broadly available!

Now before you all bury my email with congratulations please be aware that my laptop hard disk went pop yesterday so I have VERY limited access to work emails. If anyone knows how to recover data from a "clicking" hard disk then please let me know...

Woo de-duplication support :D. I suspect that I may get told off if I apply the update now and take down the entire network.

Time to schedule some down time so I can play with the new features :)

If it's completely unreadable I'd use a usb sata dock, a freezer and two sealable plastic bags.

1) Place hard drive inside first bag with (optional) dessicant (dried rice would work), seal.
2) Place bagged hard drive into second bag, seal.
3) Leave in freezer for an hour or two.
4) Have usb sata dock ready and connected to another computer.
5) Whip drive out of freezer, remove bags, dunk into sata dock, power on dock.
6) Copy data quickly.

Repeat 1-6 as necessary - there's a time limit on how long you can copy data before it realises it's broken again.

Last time I tried to upgrade the simulator it didn't play nicely with me any more :(. Do you know if there's going to be a new simulator released with these updates preapplied at some point?

They are great for testing on :)

There is a new version coming out based on the 2010.Q1 but it will ONLY run under VirtualBox. The VMware version was kinda fraught with problems and we've found the VB version runs very sweetly.

As soon as the new version is available I'll let all know on here.

I play with proper storage my good friend... these laptop thingys are not what I'm used to :-)

Just done the update, (was keen for some of the new features and changes).

Looking excellent, BUI is much faster for me anyway, you have sorted iscsi with targets being only allowed 1 interface connection. Replication BUI is much better as well much easier to control! Also the shares tab is much better laid out with Local and Replica shares. Looking good guys keep up the good work! Not even started playing with some of the bigger changes yet. :D

Am on holiday this week but am kind of addicted to Edugeek so just thought I'd have a peek and see what's happening.

We have not seen this "issue" on any of our real S7000's in the CBC (we have 2 x S7110's and 2 x S7410's).

For a belt and braces check I have asked the clever guys in the Fishworks team to have a look and as soon as I know I'll let you all know on here.

I figured you'd probably be sick of all the travelling recently lol, a break at home's surely not that bad compared to sitting on a train or airplane all day? ;)

Everything I've seen on 2010.Q1 looks positive so far and I haven't seen any complaints that mirror what this guy is saying. If I spot anything else around the net I'll link to it in this thread. :)
