HP 2015DN Printer - Paper Jam Fix !!

Recently we had a HP 2015DN fail, the paper jam light would come on straight away and it had no network connectivity.

After doing some reading, we took the side off and pressed the "Test Engine" button.

It printed a test page just fine (horizontal lines). This means that the problem is 99% the "Formatter Board"

There are plenty of people on fixyourprinter.com saying that taking this out and sticking it in the oven, reflows the solder ball joints on the chip in the middle.

After 9min at 185c, it was cooked :)

Took it back to work next day, it has worked fine for over a week now.
Thats saved us £68.80....

hope this can help others too

NOTES:
Peel the plastic material strip thing off near the RAM slot before cooking (as you can see I forgot)
Place it on something to keep it off the metal tray
Let it cool for 30min

We have baked 5 successfully, the Food Technology(aka Cookery) teacher thought we were pulling her leg when we asked if we could borrow an oven.....

On a semi-related note that might be useful for some. We have about 3-5 P2015N (the network version) as well as just some (around 3) standard P2015 that have for various reasons failed. Would anyone want these free of charge (collection only).

HP Fixed ours for free with a 10 day turn-around. Even if printer was out of warranty.

I would never put it in an oven, let alone my own at home!

They replaced this out of warrenty for you?

Did you have to complain etc?

Ours was out of warrenty by 2 months, they wanted us to also buy 1 weeks tech support (£49.99) to diagnose the problem. And then a replacement part from them is £124.90

Fair play if you managed to get this replaced out of warrenty!

If you are reluctant to reheat one of these then i guess your lucky enough to have a generous repair budget :)

HP knows its a fault with their product, so I just point out to them that its their duty to fix/replace the formatter board.

We've got about 15 of the 2015's, and a third have had the same issue.

End of the day, I shouldn't have to 'cook' anything from the printer.

We have a fair few of these printers and had to replace a couple of formatter boards. If only we knew this little trick!

Whilst the cooking method looks like fun, if this were to ever happen I would like to try and get HP to fix it first. Could you direct us as to how you got HP to sort this out even for out of warranty 2015's?

They don't.

If your 2015 is under warranty they will arrange to collect it by courier (you must box it up securely) transport it to France where they will repair it and ship it back around a week later.

Thats what they did with the ones I had go down.

No I just buy the Mk III formatter boards and change them myself.

This worked with the warning light faults but ours have now started losing ethernet connectivity. And baking it doesnt fix that :-(
