We have just got a whole new IT suite of XP machines with lovely flatscreens. Unfortunately the screens have a menu button on them which allows the little darlings to muck about, turn the screen over,etc etc. Is there ANY way I can stop this happening?
Theres no real physical way I've found yet as finger breaking is frownd upon here.
If its not part of your AUP then add it. You can then use this against students messing with the buttons. I also put memo's in their pidgeon holes and also one on their department heads pidgeon heads as well.
We've not has a monitor broken yet, but damage to other equipment is now billed directly to the parent / guardian and taken from there.
What make of monitor are they? Most DELL / HP monitors have a lookout feature.
With the monitor on try holding the menu button for 10/20 seconds and see if they lock out.

They are Dell Monitors so I will try the lockout. Will that have to be done for every new log-on?
As for the AUP - it is in there in a general way.
It isnt really damage I am worried about - just fiddling!

After the monitor has been power cycled it might have to be done again, you'll have to try that.

Not a technical problem.
If kids are 'fiddling' in lesson time then it's up to the teacher to retain control of the class. :)
If they are 'fiddling' at break/lunch/after school don't leave them unsupervised and/or consider some surveillance. (IP cameras, etc.)

Funny how Dell were unable to tell me about it, isn't it! Nothing on the documentation, either.
No probs WITCH - I think I read it in a Dell monitor User Guide one on one of the CDs.
Seems to be an undocumented feature of a lot of monitors. Even works on Dells CRTs
