Hard Drive Question
I have a Dell PowerEdge 2950 rack server running two hard drives which are mirrored.
I want to add more storage but am not bothered if the third hard drive is mirrored or not. If I purchase a drive and plug it in will Server 2008 just recognise it as a single hard drive with all capacity offered to the OS?
This is more of a Dell Hardware Specific question. I think you can, dont quote me on that though
We have a 2850 here which we use as our main fileserver, last summer we needed to add extra capacity to it so bought 3 extra HDD and set them up as a RAID 5. I think i just used the Dell open manage software to do this, so i would guess you can do the same with a single HDD. But as i have never tried it cant say for sure.

EDIT as in dont plug it into the array
I think you should be fine as others have said. To plug in as normal and format using the OS.
Just thought, you would probably have to configure the drive to work under Raid 0
