Ive got one of these: Silicon Image Products - SiI3512 - PCI to 2 Port SATA150 on that page it says "Hot-Plug capable" - does that mean I can plug a HD into the PCI card while the machine is turned on?
At the moment I cant get the system to boot when a HD is plugged into the card. The OS (gentoo) lists the card OK in lspci once its booted. I was just wondering if I can try plugging in a HD to it once Ive got the machine booted?
Yes, provided both drive and controller will support hot-swapping.

thanks, will investigate. See my other thread though ("strange hardware problem"), as the card used to work fine, and then stopped.
