Monitor brightness
Hi All,
Wonder if anyone could shed some light (hehe) on why one of my two tft monitor is brighter then other. Both are HP 1740, same settings on the actual monitor. Plugged into the same pc\vga card (ones DVI others VGA - only difference). Both same age etc.
Tis starting to really annoy me so much I'm tempted to swap one of the TFTs.
Cheers,

The output signals on your graphics card are different for each different standard. The DVI is reproducing the colour in crisp digital fashon where as the VGA is making a best effort rendering of the rgb information that it is fed.
The moniters may also handle the inputs differently and apply more brightness bias to one input or the other as part of the way that it deals with colour profiles.
You could try getting the appropriate ICC profiles for the moniters and attempting to configure them to match but without a consistant output signal between the two types I think that true matchinge will be very difficult.

Google Colour Management. Will give you more info on monitor profiling.

I have a pair of 1740s on my desk here connected in the same way - one VGA, one VGA via DVI+adapter. There's a definite difference between the two but it's never bothered me that much! If I set them both to exactly the same settings, one has a very cold 'blue' feel to it...

Hahaha!!!
I managed to do it! I took the VGA cable out, plugged it back in after blowing on the connector. (We'll over look the Windows Update with the monitor update)
