We have them under all of our benching and they are a waste of time in my opinion. The cables often come out of the baskets unless cable-tied in place.
I've drilled lots of 80mm holes in the worksurfaces and fitted the plastic thingies. So now above deck the only visible cables are mouse and keyboard. I'm still looking at ways to run them neatly underneath and had a brainwave whilst shopping in Homebase - guttering. There's some nice stuff that is just over 10cm square, which should be wide and deep enough to take the cables and power supplies. It would work out at about £3 per metre including fixings, which is a lot less than comparable trunking.
I can't see any reasons why this won't work but am I missing something?
Large size trunking is also good for that job you can chop the top side out of it and fix it to the underside of the desk and away you go :)
Surely if you chop the top of the trunking you have a similar thing to a gutter?
Similar sort of thing but you can be more flexible with the trunking and just chop out what you need and then you have the clip on front so can pop it off and fiddle in it etc.
I could see a gutter working but kids will get hands in it rather easily in the top of the tray but the trunking is sealed if you don't just chop the top side out of it and just chop out sections and bits you need.
Guttering does work. I got this for Screwfix Square Line Black Gutter 114mm Pack of 6 - Screwfix.com, Where the Trade Buys and it has made a really neat job. It was a lot harder to install than I had expected but mainly because the HP DC7800s have an external power supply which added a lot of bulk and weight. Once we had worked out a system it got a lot easier though.
The guttering we used is square and looks quite big but we couldn't have managed with anything smaller.
I'll post a pic. when I get time.
The best place to get the basket would be from your local electrical wholesaler. Lots of different sizes, and fittings such as corners, hangers etc.
