Our pupils enjoy the whole "let's unplug the mouse and then break the pins trying to put it back in" game. Is it technically possible for a computer to be aware of when a mouse or keyboard is removed from a ps/2 port? I'm working on an idea of an automatic notification system that will let me know when and where it happens.

You might be able to with WMI, but if you're trying to catch them in the act I doubt it would be instantaneous enough.
Its easier to just replace them all with USB - but then they just cut the cables :mad:
USB would probably be easier to detect the removal of than ps/2.

Disconnect the earth from the case. Works wonders. :)
Cheers Geoff, I'll put it forward in a department meeting. We could incorporate it into the science curriculum as an example of darwinism.
It also means you get new PCs every year. As they fail the PAT tests. :P
