what is it then cmos?? trying to get into it so can change boot up sequence so boots from cd rom first. battery was out all night
cmos = bios for PC maintenance purposes. When you took the battery out did you also disconnect the mains power?
If you did you probably need to look for a reset jumper on the motherboard (a manual will help with this!)

Just random jumpers, or as documented in the motherboard's manual? I know some older boards require you to short out a couple of soldered pins with a paperclip rather than connect/remove jumpers. If you've done as the manual says then I'd be surprised it's not working. Is there a particular time that you had to short out something with a jumper for, maybe?

A lot of boards will have a reset jumper you just need to switch it over to the reset setting.
If that doesn't work disconnect from mains remove battery and use a mettalic object across the terminals on the motherboard battery holder to discharge it.

It's also worth noting that most boards say on them what the jumpers do... get a torch out and do some hunting!
