Dell Vostro 1510 Laptop
I need to purchase 3 new laptops and the Dell Vostro 1510 have caught my eye. Can get the following for £400.00
Core 2 Duo T5670
Intel Pro Wireless
4Yr Warranty NBD
15.4" Widescreen WXGA
Anyone here got any comments on the 1510?
Recently purchased 2 of these for community centre staff, seem sound nice laptops tbh.
No problems found if thats what u wondering.
Pretty nippy lil things too :p
The missus has a Vostro 1000 (IIRC)..2gb/120gb/AMD X2 etc etc...
Very nice indeed. Same spec as above pretty much bar the CPU (we're an AMD household..Got a Vaio Athlon 1500 laptop, and my desktop is an X2 as well.)
I'm hoping it'll have a similar level of durability to my 11 year old Inspiron 3800..that's still going as well as the day it was built (speedstep P3/600, 256mb/20gb)..:D
Have looked at the 1000. Could get a simlar spec but AMD + 3 Years warranty for £300.00. Thought the 1510 has a nicer profile and should be stronger due to magnesium-alloy reinforced chassis.
It is also £120.00 cheaper than a D530 and £200.00 less than a D830, both via Dell Education.
This month's PC Pro has a good review of the 1310, if that's any help:

I have a Vostro 1510, bought in the last 2 months or so.
Nice machine, except...the keyboard had keys in the wrong place making touch typing impossible. Dell sent a new keyboard which I have yet to replace.
Europe Vostro Keyboard Issue: What We're Doing - Small Business
Jem was fortunate...her boss agreed to buy her laptop through the company, so she got it at a cheap price with a nice warranty..heh. She had a bad key initially..got a new keyboard through the post 24 hours later, and a phone tech to talk her through replacement.
Kept the other keyboard though...you never know when it'll be useful. Half the board on the Inspiron died at 9 years old..I bought another off PCHub for £10. Plus the VAIO had to have a replacement one off EBay after an encounter with coffee..
That reminds me, the VAIO needs a backlight..heh..
Quick question for those of you who have purchased Vostro Kit for school. How did you purchase them? Education account manager can't supply them. Called business sales who then put me through to my account manager, who can't supply them.
School needs to purchace via PO so can't purchase online via CC.
Find a reseller who can buy them let them add a little to the top as a margin then raise the PO with them instead should be fine. (School will get the benefit of the deal after all)
I've recently had a quote for 50 from an account manager. (I've PMd his email)
Just waiting for one on evaluation - should get it next week.
What are peoples views of Dells NBD support on laptops?
Vostro's are hard to get hold of, they are a loss leader for Dell, no margin, but they usualy charge £50-£60 per machine for delivery and there is no discount either for any quantity, if any of you do want to order using a PO and finding it hard, we will be able to do it for you, and i should be able to get them without the per machine delivery charge, but would have to put a margin on the order..
Well after some discussion the bursa purchased them on her CC. Have been dispatched today.
Thanks guys for all your input.
