DIY Compact Flash To SATA SSD

Just seen this GeekStuff4U.com - DIY SSD

Nice cheap way to get a 96Gb SSD for less than £400.00. Not bad when you think 64Gb SDD is about £700.00 - £800.00

I have an 8Gb USB stick which cost less than £20 so 8 of them would cost about £150.

If I got my soldering iron and sharp knife out could I bodge things so that I had the innards of an 8 port USB hub with 8 sticks in it and 1 USB lead.

No idea how you then give that a SATA connection - that bit is left as an exercise for the reader :-)

Pretty sure this isn't going to work but it must give an idea of where the prices are going for flash drives!

wouldn't need sata though, you can boot from usb drives now. access speed isn't majorly noticable, you can rewire the plug so it goes onto the jumpers aswell...... hmmm. might need todo that!
