IBM V3700 or Dell MD3620 = VMware
IBM or Dell?
I have a project coming up for a VMware implementation which will have 3 hosts direct attached to a SAN via 8GB fibre.
Question is: I have been given pricing for a like for like comparison between IBM and Dell.
The pricing includes:
- 3 hosts (IBM x3650 M4 or Dell R720) each with: 192GB RAM, 2 six core processors, 2 HBA etc.
- IBM V3700 with expansion shelf with 48 x 600GB 10k SAS OR Dell MD3620 with same capacity of disks
Putting price completely aside for now, which of the two solutions would people suggest I invest in? Anybody with experience of both SAN's?
If not anyone got any experience with one or the other - good or bad?
My thought is with them being like for like there probably isn't anything between them.
There is no direct comparison online - storage reviews seem to be few and far between.
The kit will house the usual school infrastructure from: SIMS, exchange, SQL, file, SCCM, share point, app-v etc. For a school that has 1400 on roll and 1100 devices.
Thoughts are greatly appreciated!
