HP 2800dtn Not detecting new ink carts
I have a wonderful HP 2800dtn here, but tit has today refused to recognise 3 new colour carts we have put in. The display and webmin shows then as being low\empty. These are new HP carts and not refills. I have some printers which you have to tell it that new carts have been inserted but cannot find anything on the 2800. Any help?
Re: HP 2800dtn Not detecting new ink carts
Obvious possibles that you will doubtless have tried..
- Power off and then on (IT crowd anyone?)
- Try powering off, removing cartridges, waiting for printer to complain and then installing one, seeing if it accepts it (power cycle again if not) repeat
Beyond that can't think of anything obvious...
Re: HP 2800dtn Not detecting new ink carts
We had the same sorts of problems here with 2 HP inkjets. Not sure of the model off the top of my head. They were A3 ones tho. Apparently if you took the cartridges out when it was switched on it buggered up something. Basically we had to ship it back for repair...
Could this have happened?

Bugger... Sounds like a call to HP tech support is in order.. it does sound a lot like kearton's suggestion may be at the heart of it though
@Kearton: Love the sig :D
Re: HP 2800dtn Not detecting new ink carts
Also make sure the little copper contacts are clean on both the printer and the cartridge. Otherwise the chip on the cartridge wont be able to talk to the printer.
Re: HP 2800dtn Not detecting new ink carts
I had this problem on a BusinessInkjet 1100... basically, some heavy handed luser had managed to snap the plastic switch underneath the cartridge which detects how much ink is left by pushing on the 'bag' in the cartridge.
Re: HP 2800dtn Not detecting new ink carts
It is the chips on the carts which have 'blown' due to being inserted whilst switched on. New carts register fine. Phew.
Re: HP 2800dtn Not detecting new ink carts
OK, to clarify my previous email (i.e I've spoken to someone else here who knew the whole story)...
We had problems with the 2600 model inkjets. We put in new carts and it said they were low/empty. We spoke to the HP reseller and they said that if you replaced the carts without turning the power off it could fry something. We had to send two back for repair.
So it sounds like a very similar prob, Dos_Box
Re: HP 2800dtn Not detecting new ink carts
Yup. Under the cartridge cover is a diagram showing that the power must be OFF before removing and inserting new ink.
Bugger.

Bugger.
Expensive lesson but at least not as expensive as a new printer.

What a PITA this is! I always swap on the fly its very rare I turn anything off when changing inks and toners. May have to start remembering to turn them off.
