HP DL365 G1 RAM?
Hi,
We have a HP DL365 G1 thats running on 3GB of ram.
Its now running with only 500mb available so would like to replace the current memory with four 1gb.
In our other older servers(not HP) we just put in pc2 5300U memory sticks but after just trying i found this server doesnt like it.
Is this a HP thing?
Many thanks

some servers are fussy over the ram you put in.
as a rule of thumb i wouldnt mix and match makes/models/speed
if you need to upgrade it i would buy a whole new batch of RAM
also you may need to look at the manual on how HP want the ram slots to be populated as there is likely a specific ordering to it if it isnt going to be fully populated.

Thanks SHimmer45,
Tried two matching pairs and still no luck.
Looking at it when it starts up it does say something about ecc memory so it might be that the memory i have is non ecc. The working memory is.
Just had a very quick look and it looks like £40 ish for 2gb of ecc stuff, bit cheaper of ebay. For the age of the server i might try and push for a new one.
Shame because i wont be able to get another rack mounted one as they cost too much.

found this on Kingstons website
it relates to the G5 version of your server
"Four single ranked DIMMs per processor node yields 2-way bank interleaving.
Four dual ranked DIMMs per processor node yields 4-way bank interleaving.
Mixing single and dual ranked DIMMs on the same processor node will disable bank interleaving.
Kits must be installed in decreasing capacity with the largest kits installed in the banks furthest away from each processor"
see what i mean about server boards being fussy :)
