Cheap home server - HP ProLiant Turion II N40L

I've been considering buying a small server for testing, learning and practicing s08r2 management and looking around these little HP ProLiant Turion II N40L microservers look like a nice small option currently with a 100 cashback offer totaling 150.

Wondering if anyone here had any advice on looking for a small piece of kit, its hardware requirements are not high as I said its more so for me to play around and test with at home and the price is attractive!

    Spec:
    - AMD Turion II Neo N40L / 1.5GHz
    - 2GB DDR3 SDRAM
    - HDD 1x 250GB

They are fairly decent - not sure if its changed but i don't think they have a raid card.

ive got the older vrsion of that shoved full of hard drives. its not fast but its fast enough to be usable and even allows aero (the older version it helps if you have a non official bios patch to enable ahci on the dvd sata port as i use that fro a boot drive and the 4 bays as 2 raid 1 arrays (the windows software allows raid 10 but it wont survive a reboot))

I've got a HP MediaSmart server, I've had it for a few years now and it was pretty slow to start with but I got a second-hand CPU and now it's whizzy-fast!

The only thing to watch out or is there are only HP drivers for linux and server 2008 ... Ive installed both to test with 4 gig ram and they both run very well ... I run moodle (Linux version) on one of these at one of my schools and it runs fine ... I havent tried Windows 7

I have one at home (older version) serving nfs, smb and iscsi under Ubuntu without issue. We also have the current version with an SSD* as a remote logserver and IDS collecton box. Both are more than up to the task.

*Intel 320 with the built-in capacitors, supported in enterprise deployments.

Got the older version at home as a file server and VM host, and was so impressed I bought the newer version at work to act as a DC/File server for a site 5-10 users, and it's fine with it. No powerhouse but it's more than up to most tasks.
