Hi
We are looking to replacing 70 PCs in July/August.
No OS required..we were looking at a spec similar to this:
The 2002U
But with an 60gb SSD instead of a standard HDD
Anyone know had experience with other brands, maybe even bespoke?

Get one on approval and asses the build quality and how much the pupils will pull them appart.
We had a good relationship with Stone when we were still in a position to buy, they only got in the door as I insisted on having a system to test and examine for robustness.
You want fixed voltage PSU's
You want solid platics
Do you need the optical drive????

If you call up Novatech they can do bespoke stuff
We are getting them to put together some of their nBox HDs for us with 60GB SSDs.

If you are putting Microsoft Windows on them then unless you have a full retail copy of Windows for each machine then yes you do need a Winodws OS on them. OEM licences from your old machines are not transfereable and if you have a schools agreement or EES then that is upgrade only, you need an existing licence to upgrade from.
If you're putting Linux or some other OS on, then ignore above![]()

What about Very PC? They do bespoke builds and are very good quality.
Let me know if you interested and what spec you want and I'll arrange a demo unit for you![]()

Think it's important to query this, as it'd only be legal if either you're not running Windows on them (unlikely) or if you have 70x retail version of windows licences which you plan on arranging with Microsoft to carry over to new hardware (even more unlikely)..
You may not know, but even if you do it's useful for those that don't.. Windows volume licence doesn't mean you can buy PC without base licence, it's upgrade only!
[edit]beaten to it in a post above[/edit]
If doing SSD, i'd seriously consider going to a 128GB HDD. Some say they only use ~30GB now, but then you may regret it further down the line, and it's always easier to get the additional funds now when you're buying them new than in 3yrs time. Otherwise that is practically identical spec we would like to get for our next replacement.

Thanks Jamesfed,
In fact we have been using Novatechs at our school, did get a quote from them for the link in my OP.
Now that I know they do bespoke I can get them to replace 500gb HDD with 60gb SSD, by my estimate £5 difference in price :-)
Good call on the OS side and EES agreement, did not know that!
Blimey Luke...you work late, i will PM you the requirements! :-)

talk to stone - brilliant machines and very flexible on price!

Can I have the old ones![]()

If budget allows, I would do what @dgsmith recommended and buy 120GB/128GB SSDs instead of 60GB drives. There isn't that much of a difference in price, they will be faster and you won't run out of space a few years down the line.

It's also worth looking at the tier 1 manufacturers, with that number they will do you a custom build and you'd be surprised how much the price drops, so worth getting pricing for Lenovo, Dell & HP.
