Spec me a server please!!!
Can someone help me, I need an idea of what hardware specs I will
need for our RDS server for a primary school.
Virtualized 2008 RDS
Apps include Office, Flash based children programs, Web browsing,
I am not concerned with storage as the Host will have SAS drives for the
OS & Apps, While user data, documents etc.. will be stored on a 12tb nas.
So they question I am asking is...
Which CPU? - More cores the better? or better to have a larger cache?
How many CPU's? - With one CPU be able to serve 100 concurrent connections?
How much memory?
If you can provide any links to systems, that would be great

From my experience with RDS and Citrix (and I've been doing it for nearly 10 years) You are better off having more lower spec servers than you are having fewer higher spec servers.
for 100 users and some redundancy I would go for 3x mid range servers with duel Xeon processors with around 8-12GB RAM.
You *Could* put them all on one server, but disk I/O will become a problem (even on SAS drives) and you will have no redundancy.

Okay, I've specced you a server. Are these specs good enough?

Are you ok with Rack servers (e.g. propper cooling ect)?

Not to bothered about Dell or HP
I'm ideally looking at a 1U Rack unit
12GB of RAM? that's way below than what I expect I was thinking I might need 64GB
Ideally I would like it to be one server too...

Like I say, you could put it all on one server but you will probably be better off using more lower spec servers.
