    New Servers Specs

Ive been round a load of companies asking for server specs of the following:

    NAS Server:
    HP Rack Mountable Chassis
    Intel Xeon 64 Bit processor
    2GB Ram
    3 year warranty
    6 x 300 Gb Drives (to make a terabyte with raid 5)

    Email
    HP Rack Mountable Chassis
    Intel Xeon 64 Bit processor
    2GB Ram
    3 year warranty
    5 x 80 Gb Drives

Now, obviously most companies are coming back with SAS drives, but have you seen the price for 1 SAS drive at 300gb, your talking nearly £250 each. Others have been coming back with SATA2, ok they are cheaper and a lot of companies are saying that you want your email server to have the best stuff in etc, well anything has to be better than what we have got at the mo. So basically, im asking if anyone can provide me with the spec above but on the HP DL380 G4 chassis as this takes the Ultra 320 disks which are a lot cheaper to buy as we always have a few spare drive sat in a cupboard and every 3 years we replace all the drives.

    Re: New Servers Specs

Tim, you must be in the wrong place for your SAS drives, the last ones I got were identically price to the 15K U320's. I got them from Insight, but have also used A one computer services -http://www.number-one.co.uk/ they have always both had excellent prices, and both probably still have DL380G4's kicking around.

But is now not the time to be moving onwards and upwards? If you put it off this year next year you will be more forced into it, so you have to make the jump at some point, I know its a hard one but it has to be done.
