    Overhead cable trays

You know, the ones that hang from the ceiling and allow you to route cabling overhead, such as:
    http://www.blackbox.com/Catalog/Deta...,1381&mid=4116

How easy are they to fit?

Because Im planning to remodel the server room a bit and move the 2 cabinets diagonal to each other as it will give far more space, but it will make it difficult to run cables between them, so I was thinking of this solution

As long as you can safely fix it to the ceiling very simple to install.

Yeah, if yours are anything like ours, watch out for asbestos.

If I were you, I'd buy the basket and fittings from a local electrical wholesaler. Probably very much cheaper than network suppliers, especially if your school / LA has a good discount structure.

Good point, will have to check the enourmous asbestos report

I think it is alright in this area, they look like circa 60's/70's ceiling tiles but cablers have removed and drilled there before so should be OK

Some cablers will just drill anything and never check so please don't assume that.

We don't want you to be inhaling asbestos dust.

Ask your site manager/caretaker for advice on this one.

    Re: Overhead cable trays

Ugh well I have checked the asbestos survey and as usual with these things the room and block names they have given bear no relation to reality so Im still not 100% sure Ive even looked in the right block!

It does look like there was nothing detected but to be honest I might just rest the trays between the racks, there will still be room to walk underneath

Quite jealous of people who have enough room to have their racks side by side
