    Which A3 Inkjet printer?

It seems this area is a mine field of crap. I'm a flatout HP fanboy when it comes to printers, but their A3 range seems to be totally pants judging by the reviews.
So I'm looking elsewhere this time. Does anyone have any recommendations? It'll be used for printing off CAD drawings.

    Cheers.

Our accounts folk use a brother one we got from Vicki at TCS (they're now called something else... penkeths?) and it has been good - low low volume use though.

    Thanks for all the replys.

I think I've narrowed it down to a Canon Pixima iX7000 which seems OK I'm also getting a quote for an Oki 801n just in case a laser is in the budget.

There isn't a solid one unfortunately. I'd looking around the 800 mark for a laser and a lot less than that for Inkjet.

The toners for the Oki are the cheapest I've found for a colour laser at 150 and 60 for black. The cheapest HP laser CP5225n is 980 with networking and the toners for that are 250!!!

Ah - I just bought a Ricoh GX 7700N which may be worth a look then. Gel rather than inkjet, the cartridges are quite pricey but are much larger than inkjet tanks. Has some other benefits such as low heat and power, suitable for transfer printing, much more durable sheet feeding than many A3 inkjets I've found. Nice colour production for documents, not great for photos but useable.

Hmm that certainly looks interesting and only 50 a cartridge for a 4000 page yield! So with it being Gel something I've not heard of before being used in a printer, what is the quality like?
The printer bill be used for printing off CAD drawings some 3D parts and some just technical drawings.
Its a shame that you can't try before you buy with printers.

Yeah I noticed that which makes it very affordable and appealing. I just don't know if management are going to be pursuaded due to the the cost of the toners.

We got a GX e3350N free from Ricoh as a promotion to give it a try (same model, just A4). Was impressed, comes with a set a half-full carts to start you off. The gel gives good quality, very sharp on text and graphics. No leaky mess too! Two year on-site warranty included.

I think I'll put the Ricoh down on the quote too and see which they decide to go for.

    Hi Gaz,
Check out the Ricoh Nashuatec SPC820DN which is widely used in schools especially in art and design areas. Good luck with the search. Sue

we've got the pixma and it's perfectly ok from a use and support point of view, but dammit it's thirsty, the media dept did 6 a3 full colour prints for a display for options evening and caned through almost an entire cartridge set... just make sure the people running it know how much it's going to cost to run, we've refused to pay for them from the IT maintenance budget, the cartridges come straight out of the media budget!

Yeah I've given them the quotes and they are going to go for the Canon Pixima due to the cost, even though the cartridges only yield less than 1000 pages each.
It is going to be light use but I just know that its going to be used more and more as time goes on. I've already said "Well I'm getting my I told you so in now"
