Recommended spec for student resouces file server.

We are going to replace another server which holds all our student and teacher resources. (not home dirs) This can contain anything that is prepared for students to access from the network created by staff for lessons etc and also info for staff. It currently holds around 250gb of stuff and is nearly full.

Fast acces time is a must.

    Rackmount again.

depends on your budget. absolute low end go for a small NAS box think they are about £700 for 1tb okay but not brill, will also sit in rack on a shelf. I use one for disk backup and it is fine.

full blown NAS/SAN option will leave plenty of expansion for future.

otherwise go for SATA server with loads of RAM
