We had a bunch of these that worked fine on some older systems but for some reason where resulting in blank screens when I plugged them into onboard VGA ports..
Had to resort to powered splitter units instead..

I'm not an enormous fan of them but they are extremely cheap and do the job. Some supplied cables seem to give slightly less ghosting than others but it's always present.
I'm suggesting dual output cards now instead but these as a backup for departments that don't want the "expense" of a clear projection.
Interesting - those are clearly the things which I found at Videk; the VID~ prefix is one clue, and the manufacturer's part number is the same as the stock code at Videk - but... they're half the price Videk are asking for them!!Originally Posted by Halfmad
PC World Business also sell it for the same price.

Always use a powered device, and space can't be that limited!
PCWorld/Equanet/Inmac are all the same company.Originally Posted by Geoff

Good old CPC? Though I do like the sound of the dual head graphics cards, I've thought of this before. You could have the desktop extended so that your ACTIVStudio flp (or Smart et al. equivalent) is left on the board while you (or rather the teacher!) get's on with something else - like take the register! Now if only I had a budget so that I could order 30 odd new graphics cards...

Thanks Andy - those CPC ones are more like the price I wanted to pay.
I do like your idea of extended desktops though, I hadn't thought of that - one of the teachers who is about to get a IWB for the first time asked if this was possible, and I said 'no'. Time to re-evaluate perhaps...
49P
Amazon, and I have used this seller before, quick and painless.
Amazon 49p vga splitter (postage is extra though)
I got one once... and never again. Was just too poor of a output.
Think the powered ones I get / got are about £30 from Insight.
Nath.
If you just use a splitter is there still a problem playing video on both sources? I seem to remember on some of our laptops you had to have it set to just the projector if you were showing a video otherwise if you had it set to both the video would only play on the primary output (the notebook screen).
@TechMonkey - never found that problem, but then as far as the PC is concerned there is only one output.
The video playback problem might exist on dual-head graphics cards though - could someone with one of those confirm/deny this, as I might yet go with dual heads...
@Techmonkey - the video playback problem you describe is due to the video being played via an overlay, most modern dual head cards will have settings to alter how video overlays behave. On Intel cards it's in the overlay settings section whilst on ATI systems, the setting you are looking for is 'theatre' mode , as for Nvidia, I don't have one in front of me atm to check but i'm sure it's somewhere in the overlay settings.
Also, the DRM can bite you here. For example DVDs on Media Player. It'll only output the video on the primary display, despite what you tell it to do in the graphics card options.
So, as long as I make the IWB the primary display, I'll be fine. Right?
