I've just ran our print script on my worksation to load one of our 2600n's the option is in the same place i.e. printer properties, ports tab but the bidirectional option is not available on ours i.e. the tick box is there but you can't select it.

I mentioned this on another thread, but we had no end of printing problems with these printers... until I updated the driver and used the one available via windows update. Since then (TOUCH WOOD) we've not had any major problems with them.

Our caretaker has a big sledge hammer would you like to borrow it

Did you try swapping IPs that way you might narrow the problem down a bit

No I mean as per my earlier post (30). If you swap the printer with the working one (you could even put it in the same place so its using the same network socket) and give it the same IP address as the working one (obviously dont have them both connected to the network at the same time) then send a print job to it and see what happens.

If it doesnt print then I think your printer is Kaput and you can borrow our sledge hammer and just plug the working one back in

But if it does print then its something to do with the way the second printer driver is installed / setup

last option I can think of before its hammer time if you dont have a spare usb print server:

connect the printer via usb to a workstation, share the printer (I think you're limited to 10 concurrent connections) so install the printer again on the server "a network printer or printer attached to another computer" ( I know it means the PC has to be left on and its less than ideal but it is a last resort) and to get around the 10 concurrent connections the workstations print to the print share on the server which then sends the data to the print share on the PC which then sends it to the printer via usb bypassing the printers lan port which might be whats causing the problems. It might work, well maybe... and if it still doesnt then I would give up and go the pub!

Sounds very complicated. I could change the IP to the one of the other one (if you see what I mean) but moving it across the school isnt really possible.
Have spoken to my local print repair man and he is going to see if he can find me a spare nic to put in to rule that out..
As for going down the pub a gold rum and coke sounds nice and I don't really drink anymore
