Portable computing for BTEC in Sport

We are starting BTEC in Sport come September and my PE Teacher is looking for kit suitable to use for this. He is thinking toward I Pads - we are an Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties school for boys. Our current set up is Windows 2008 Server with predominantly XP Pro Workstations - a few Windows 7 laptops and workstations plus a few Macs for Art. Looking for suggestions please.

To do the written work on? Quality netbooks or ulraportables if there'll be a lot of typing involved, though tablets will be fine if it's predominantly for internet research etc. Any budget guidelines? Do they want machines that they could take out to record sports activities on, on a built in camera?

Not sure what they actually need - hence seeking guidance from here. I did hear mention that the staff were on a course recently and budget of £5K for 20 bits of kit (netbooks?) was mentioned. We only need five though.

Haven't some PE depts gone down the route of the Flip Cam and laptops for the option of taking video footage outside and bringing it back in to work on, with laptops providing the portability of bring this facility into the gym if required?

But you probably need a bit more guidance from what the teacher hopes to do.

I would seek requirements from the department before making any decisions.

We do the Btec and the PE dept. just have a bank of laptops to use, they've never asked for anything else.

Thanks for the replies chaps and chapesses. The trouble being the 'staff' went on a training course for this BETEC and came back all fired up on the idea that Ipads are the way to go. What I was after from Forum members was hard facts I can go back to the SLT with justifying my gut feeling that IPads would not be best suited to the task.
