laptop or tablet

Looking to invest some money into laptop/tablet computers for student use, looking for a robust machine to stand up to standard student abuse on 24 hour basis. Any comment or suggestions very welcome.

Well i think laptops are the way to go.

Tablets do have their advantages but I suspect that they will end up being used mostly as laptops. Save yourself some cash and get laptops.

If you are thinking about using the tablets for note taking or field work, maybe a small number of PDAs could be bought too (from the money saved by buying laptops?)

I am lucky enough to have both. I use the laptop if I want to do serious work. I use the tablet if I want to impress the kids....I also use it as a means of taking notes.

I have a cupboard full of tablets which are never used. My 30 laptops however are never in due to the high usage of them. Tablets are too tiny, underpowered and TBH a bit naff IMHO.
